The Huawei Watch GT marks a change in direction for Huawei’s wearables. Instead of running Google’s Wear platform, it uses Huawei’s own LiteOS, a lighter system built around long battery life and straightforward tracking rather than a broad app store. This review looks at the Huawei Watch GT across its design and display, its health and fitness tracking, its software, and its battery.
The Huawei Watch GT comes in two versions, a classic model and a sport model. This review covers the classic model, which pairs a silver finish with a leather strap; the sport model sells for less. The Huawei Watch GT launched in the United Kingdom in November 2018 at £199.

Design & Display
The classic Huawei Watch GT keeps a traditional round watch shape with a leather strap. It is light on the wrist, at about 46 grams, and slim, at roughly 10 millimeters thick. The inner face of the strap is silicon, so it holds up to exercise and gym use. The case carries two physical buttons: one opens the main menu, and the other wakes the screen. The watch also wakes with a wrist raise, and users can turn this gesture off.

The display measures about 1.39 inches and uses an AMOLED panel, with a resolution of 454 by 454 pixels and a pixel density of 326 ppi. It is a touchscreen, though it does not offer a rotating bezel for input. The screen lights only when the watch is in use, which is a large part of how the Huawei Watch GT conserves power.

The Huawei Watch GT is rated for water resistance and can be worn while swimming. Huawei lists it as carrying an IP68 rating and cites use at depths of up to 50 meters.
Health & Fitness Tracking
Fitness tracking is the core of the Huawei Watch GT. It records jogging, running, walking, climbing, cycling, and swimming in either a pool or open water, along with general fitness activity. A heart rate sensor, GPS, and TruSleep sleep tracking round out the health features. In our testing, tracking ran smoothly, and the watch sends its results to the phone, where users review them in the Huawei Health app.

Software & Apps
The Huawei Watch GT runs LiteOS. It is a focused system rather than a full platform: it does not support third-party apps, and it offers a limited set of watch faces, around a dozen at launch. Users who want a wide app ecosystem or a large choice of faces will find LiteOS narrow.

Pairing runs only through the Huawei Health app; the watch does not connect through Huawei Wear or Android Wear. Users update the app so the Huawei Watch GT appears in its device list, then complete the sync from there. Within Huawei Health, users can manage sleep tracking through TruSleep, view weather reports, and set which notifications reach the screen.

The Huawei Watch GT pairs with both Android phones and iPhones. The Huawei Health app requires Android 4.4 or later, or iOS 9.0 or later, for pairing, so older phones fall outside its support.
On calls, the watch is limited. It shows incoming calls on the screen and lets users decline them, but it cannot answer a call or place one, and it does not open the phone’s contacts. Users who need call handling from the wrist should keep this in mind.
Battery

Battery life is the Huawei Watch GT’s strongest trait. Across a week of testing, its charge dropped only about 25 percent, which sets it apart from watches that need a top-up each day. The screen lighting only during active use is the main reason the battery lasts so long. The box includes a wireless charging pad and a fast-charge adapter, and the adapter refills the battery within a day.
Who Is Huawei Watch GT For?
The Huawei Watch GT suits users who want a classic, understated smartwatch design and battery life measured in weeks rather than days, paired with reliable activity and sleep tracking. It works well for running, cycling, swimming, and general fitness, and it pairs with both Android phones and iPhones through the Huawei Health app. Users who need to answer calls from the wrist, install third-party apps, or pick from a wide range of watch faces will find LiteOS limited; the Huawei Watch GT is a stronger fit for those who value long battery life and straightforward tracking over a broad app ecosystem.
