TP-Link Deco X20 Review

The TP-Link Deco X20 is a whole-home mesh system built around Wi-Fi 6. As Wi-Fi 6 support reaches more smartphones and laptops, the Deco X20 is TP-Link’s take on bringing that connection to the whole house rather than a single room.

TP-Link Deco X20 Setup

The package ships with three units. Placed at different points around the house, they communicate with each other to remove dead zones and hold data speeds up across the space. Setup runs through the Deco app, which walks you through the three units step by step and then hosts the wider settings once installation is done.

Bands and Speed

The Deco X20 is dual band, with a total theoretical speed of up to 1800 Mbps. TP-Link splits this as 1201 Mbps on the 5 GHz band and 574 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band. It carries both MU-MIMO (Multi-User, Multiple Input, Multiple Output), which serves the download and upload needs of several users at once, and OFDMA.

OFDMA Technology

OFDMA stands for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access. It encodes digital data across many carrier frequencies, and in practice the device weighs how much data each connected user needs and how urgent it is, then adjusts bandwidth to match. That helps most under heavy load, when many devices are connected at once. In total, up to 150 devices can connect to the Deco X20.

Hardware

Inside, the Deco X20 has 512 MB of RAM and a Qualcomm 4-core CPU. Together with its Wi-Fi 6 support, that hardware is enough to handle smooth 4K video.

The Deco X20 suits large or multi-story homes, and offices that want reliable coverage across a wider space. It is faster, more powerful, and more expensive than the earlier Deco models. At the time of writing it was priced at $269.99.
