The Samsung Q7FN is a 4K QLED television and part of Samsung’s 2018 QLED range. This review covers the 55-inch model, though Samsung also offers the Q7FN in 65-inch and 75-inch sizes. It looks at the frameless design and stand options, the One Connect port box, the QLED panel and its image processing, and the Tizen smart platform.

Design and Build
The Q7FN uses a flat panel rather than a curved screen. The design is frameless, so the borders around the picture are minimal, which makes the 55-inch screen fill more of the user’s field of view than a bordered set of the same size.

The stand can be changed to suit the room. Samsung offers two options, the Gravity Stand and the Studio Stand, and the set can also be wall-mounted. Because the design allows the panel to sit close to the wall, a wall mount leaves only a small gap behind the television.

Ports and the One Connect Box
Rather than placing the connections on the set itself, Samsung routes them through a separate unit called One Connect. Almost all of the ports sit on this box, and only a single, near-invisible connection remains on the back of the television, which keeps cabling away from the panel.
This layout is useful when the set is wall-mounted, since users add or swap devices at the box instead of reaching behind a panel that sits flush against the wall. The One Connect box carries four HDMI ports, three USB ports, a composite input, an Ethernet port, and further connections.

Picture Quality
The Q7FN has a 4K UHD panel with HDR10+ support. Its defining feature is the QLED panel. A QLED screen uses a layer of colored quantum dots in front of an LCD backlight, so the dots do not emit their own light; they are illuminated by an external backlight, as in a conventional LCD set. This is the main structural difference from an OLED panel.

Samsung positions QLED as having a longer lifespan than OLED, and states that the technology resists screen burn-in and image retention, faults that can appear on other screen types. This is Samsung’s claim for the panel rather than a measured result in this review.

Image processing is handled by Samsung’s Q Engine processor. The television analyzes each scene within milliseconds and adjusts color, contrast, and detail on the fly, in a manner comparable to the scene-based optimization found on smartphone cameras.

Smart Platform and Features
The Q7FN runs Samsung’s Tizen operating system, as on the company’s other smart sets. The interface is quick and fluid to navigate. The set ships with a remote control, and it supports Bixby, so users reach Samsung’s voice assistant from the television.

The platform includes the common streaming services, among them Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and Spotify, alongside other app integrations.
Who Is Samsung Q7FN QLED For?
The Q7FN suits users who want a 4K HDR10+ smart television with a clean, frameless look and tidy cabling through the One Connect box. The choice of two stands plus a near-flush wall mount makes it a good fit for rooms where placement matters. Users deciding between the sizes can pick the 55-inch model reviewed here or move up to the 65-inch or 75-inch versions for a larger screen.
